Amphibian Ascendencies

There is a reed-choked pond where anthropomorphic amphibians reside. They have evolved not only capacities to build homes and wage war, but also a complex social code of bargaining over which caste should be in charge at any given time. Dominant castes get to boss the other three around, as well as re-shape the pond in their own image and ideals. The pond has never had a king or an emperor, but perhaps it is simply because no individual has gone through the motions yet?
